Over the 30 plus years that I have practiced as a clinical social worker, I have held many supervisory and management positions. While I do not regret a moment of the time spent in those roles, I have come to cherish my privilege as a psychotherapist and general practitioner over all others.
I have worked diligently to increase my understanding of psychotherapy since graduating from the University of Kansas School of Social Work in 1987, and can truly describe my approach as eclectic after years of studying various models of therapy, including Existential Humanism, Cognitive Behavioral, Narrative, Mindfulness Based Practice, Buddhist Psychology and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
All of this aside, I believe that the power of therapy does not reside in any particular model, but rather arises from a process of careful listening, emotional sensitivity, and from the recognition that the client is the true expert in living his or her own life. Central to my approach is a deep respect for the power of questions in opening mental space for new thoughts, new feelings, new solutions, and new possibilities.
Thank you for visiting my website and for your interest in psychotherapy!
